Band of The Week, 9/10: Further Seems Forever

Who are they: Further Seems Forever is a alternative rock band from Pompano Beach, Florida that was originally formed in 1998. The band originally featured Chris Carrabba on lead vocals (he sang on the band's debut, The Moon Is Down). However, Carrabba left the band to form his own project, Dashboard Confessional. This left Further Seems Forever in the unique position of having a different lead singer on each of their first three studio albums. The band is one of the forerunners of the early 2000's emo genre and were one of the first major success on landmark Christian rock label Tooth And Nail Records.

Why They are Band of the Week: Further Seems Forever is back. After going on hiatus following their third studio album, the band took four years off from touring and recording. However, in August of 2010, Carrabba announced he had rejoined Further Seems forever and they were back to working together. Rise Records recently announced they had signed the veteran rockers Rise will release the band's first album since the hiatus, Penny Black, on October 23rd, 2012. This past week, the band released the first single from Penny Black, "So Cold," and it is really, really good. It features a stunningly, soaring chorus and impressive musicianship throughout. Outside of "Vindicated", I can;t remember a time when Carrabba's voice has sounded so good. A corresponding music video was also released late last week.

What you need to listen to: Take a listen to The Moon is Down if you get a chance, but most importantly, watch the music video for "So Cold" below and watch Penny Black skyrocket up your most anticipated list for the remainder of 2012. This is going to be a special kind of album.
